Apex Controls Specialists, LLC (ACS) is a control systems integrator based at 5521 Industrial Road in Mount Vernon, Indiana. ACS designs, programs, and commissions automation systems for industrial manufacturers, providing customized solutions ranging from complete computer integration of production lines to minor programming changes.

ACS was established in 1996 as a subsidiary of Apex Engineering, PLLC, a multi discipline industrial engineering firm founded in 1974 and headquartered in Calvert City, Kentucky. Because ACS and Apex Engineering operate as one organization, a single team can carry a project from process design and structural work through PLC programming, panel fabrication, and startup, without handoffs between an engineering firm and a separate integrator.

ACS programs on Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Emerson, and Modicon PLC platforms, and develops HMI and SCADA applications in FactoryTalk Optix, FactoryTalk View SE and ME, Ignition, GE Cimplicity, and Wonderware. Areas of specialization include motion control, SCADA, HMI design, industrial network design, industrial data collection, database programming, and modular control systems and automation buildings.

ACS holds Rockwell Automation System Integrator Capability certifications in Control, Visualization/HMI, Low Voltage Drives, and General Motion. ACS also operates a UL508A listed control panel shop in Mount Vernon with a qualified MTR representative on staff, providing full integration of panel design, construction, and checkout. Every panel is inspected before shipment, and a full acceptance test procedure is completed on each system.

A portion of ACS work involves legacy control system upgrades. This includes migrating MicroLogix, SLC 500, and PLC-5 systems to CompactLogix and ControlLogix, converting legacy HMI applications to current FactoryTalk and Ignition platforms, and retrofitting previous generation extruder controls with current plc hardware, IIoT analytics, and CIP security.

ACS has completed control system integration projects at energetics and defense manufacturing facilities, including PLC and HMI work in environments requiring NFPA compliant explosion prevention and protection.

ACS clients include major producers of specialty chemicals, aluminum, power utilities, petrochemicals, plastics, polymers, and rubber products, along with food and beverage processing and bulk material handling facilities. ACS works nationwide, providing programming, commissioning, and startup support at client facilities across the United States from its engineering and panel fabrication operation in Mount Vernon, Indiana.
